Summer message from Ms. Amy

Dear YCM family and friends,

I hope you are all slipping into a comfortable summer routine of quality time with family and friends, opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors, and time to follow some creative impulses that maybe you had to set aside during the school year. Every summer those creative impulses for me center around selecting the music we will study and perform in the following season, and what a season YCM 2022/2023 will be!

Our full YCM company (comprising Harmonics, Overtones, and Chromatics choristers plus our brand new Musical Theatre group led by Ms. Elena) will join in the worldwide 2023 celebrations for the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company. “Growing up Disney” is the title for our March 30th concert to honor the many Disney songs, characters, shows, and films that echo in our childhood memories. This performance will be our most dynamic yet as we take advantage of the many solo opportunities, acting and expression challenges, and choreographed numbers in the Disney canon.

Our wonderful, edgy Chromatics inspired me to develop a concert program in 2023 just for them. It all started with our Spotify and YouTube song-sharing. I can always count on them to keep me up to date with cool songs and trends. In some cases, “up to date” turned out to include David Bowie, proving that some trend-setters never go out of style. So in honor of my hip students and their surprising musical tastes, I decided that we will explore in song the ever-relevant theme of love with adolescent abandon and rebellion. Mark February 13th on your calendars for our beat-poet-inspired ANTI-Valentine’s Day concert. And of course, we’ll have other pop-up performances throughout the year to keep our students building confidence and stage presence by performing in front of live audiences.

Happy summer to you all,

Ms. Amy
