Looking for a CAS opportunity unlike any other? Volunteer with YCM
YCM is proud to offer two leadership opportunities to high school students:
Class Ranger and Workshop Ranger.
Class Rangers
Class Rangers are high school students who serve as section leaders throughout the three tiers of the YCM choir framework. These talented students meet with their assigned sections at the weekly rehearsals, mentoring our young singers while assisting the Artistic Director. Rangers have a passion for music, a desire to work with children, and fluency in English, which is the language of instruction of YCM.
Workshop Rangers
Youth Chorus of Milan gathers its full performing choir together once a month to make music, have fun, and foster team spirit, and our Workshop Rangers are a fundamental part of the workshops’ success. Rangers help plan and lead group activities, motivate and support choristers, and review chorister participation and concerns with parents and other YCM staff members. Rangers have a passion for music, a desire to work with children, and fluency in English, which is the language of instruction of YCM.
What time commitment do we ask?
Class Ranger
You should be available to serve for the entire academic year at your assigned rehearsal session plus an additional 15 minutes before the lesson to review the lesson plan and objectives with the Artistic Director, greet early arriving choristers and help with setup.
Workshop Ranger
Our workshops are held on a Friday from October through May, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm for our choristers, whereas YCM personnel arrive at 4:00 pm and leave at 7:30 pm.
The workshops are held at YCM. Prior to the first workshop, we have an orientation meeting to outline objectives, review organization, and brainstorm projects for the upcoming workshops.
Rewarding our Rangers
If you are an IB candidate, working with YCM is a great way to fulfill your required CAS hours. Likewise if you are attending an Italian school looking for an alternanza scuola-lavoro credits, our Ranger program is a unique leadership opportunity. We’ll gladly provide whatever documentation your coordinator requires as part of this academic requirement.
Further, the Artistic and Executive Directors love to see our students succeed and thus are proud to provide Rangers who successfully complete one or more years at YCM with any letters of recommendation they may need when applying to summer enrichment, student exchange, or university programs.
