Harmonics is our ensemble for students enrolled in first and second grades for the academic year. In our weekly lesson of one hour, we rotate through activities that help us explore our voices and connect to the lyrics of the pieces we are studying. Each piece selected serves a pedagogical purpose whether to increase range, develop breath support, or improve intonation. In addition, we’ll begin the joyous journey of learning to read music using games.
Overtones is our ensemble for boys and girls enrolled in the third, fourth, and fifth grades of elementary school. We put our newly acquired singing skills to good use in our weekly meeting of 1 hour and 15 minutes in which we enjoy polishing and perfecting the wide range of repertoire selected for concerts planned in the current and future seasons.
Chromatics is our premier ensemble for secondary school students. From multi-movement masterworks to challenging a cappella arrangements of popular songs, the selection of music for this group reflects their continued mastery of the vocal arts. Building on the YCM foundational principles of healthy vocal production and music literacy, choristers have the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the history of music as they sample the many treasures in the choral canon.
Musical theatre is a unique theatrical art form that combines singing, dancing, and acting. Led by Elena Gomez, YCM’s Musical Theatre program will introduce students to the fundamental techniques required to integrate all three art forms in a fun and supportive environment.
Elena Gomez is a dance and musical theatre instructor and the stage director at a local international school with years of experience working as an actor, singer, and dancer in musicals. YCM choristers thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work with Elena at our April workshop, and we are thrilled she will bring her talents to YCM starting with the upcoming 2022/23 artistic season.
