YCM believes in creating leadership opportunities for talented high school students. Our Ranger program matches one or two high school students to each of our weekly sections, and we have a whole team of Rangers to assist at our monthly workshops as well. Their work is a critical part of our success and we want you to get to know and appreciate them as much as we do, so from time to time we turn the spotlight on them. First up is Jacopo.
Jacopo is Class Ranger for our Tuesday FUNdamentals section. He is a junior at an Italian high school pursuing his International Baccalaureate diploma. Working with YCM is a reunion of sorts for Jacopo as he was for many years a chorister under the direction of Amy Barton when she was a professoressa di musica at a local Italian school. Jacopo recalls the fun and camaraderie of his first workshop with Miss Amy, as well as the satisfaction he got from performing with the chorus. And of course, he remembers the fantastic two weeks of summer camp spent at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, with his middle school and high school choir friends.
Jacopo enjoys being a Class Ranger to FUNdamentals because working with preschool kids gives him a refreshing break from the intense routine of high school, allowing him the opportunity to concentrate not on himself but on making a great experience for others. Also, he gets a kick out of the FUNdamentals’ endless energy, enthusiasm, and even occasional cheekiness!
