Musical Theatre

Weekly rehearsals

Day Start Finish
Wednesdays 17:00 19:00

Sessions run weekly from September through May – with breaks scheduled for Christmas, Carnival, and Easter as well as national and local public holidays.

Weekly sessions are held in our rehearsal space at Via Solferino 17.

Musical theatre is a unique theatrical art form that combines singing, dancing, and acting. Led by Elena Gomez, YCM’s Musical Theatre program introduces students to the fundamental techniques required to integrate all three art forms in a fun and supportive environment.

Elena Gomez is a dance and musical theatre instructor with years of experience working as an actor, singer, and dancer in musicals . She is also the stage director at an international school in Milan.  YCM choristers thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work with Elena at our April workshop, and we are thrilled she will bring her talents to YCM starting with the upcoming 2022/23 artistic season.

Program objectives:

  • improve vocal skills
  • improve choreographic skills
  • gain self-confidence, lose the fear of expressing oneself
  • apply creativity, using the imagination
  • improve communication skills: articulation, pronunciation, projection, and tone of speech
  • develop concentration and memory: listening to others, remembering lines
  • improve group work and empathy: respect and co-operation
  • practice our English: students will be expected to read, write, and speak
English and will deepen their vocabulary through activities and scripts

Students should come to rehearsals dressed in comfortable clothes and trainers.

Special workshops

In addition to our regularly scheduled weekly rehearsals, we also hold special workshops throughout the year (always on a Friday, 5-7pm) at which the full YCM chorus – comprising the Chromatics, Overtones, and Harmonics choirs – and our Musical Theatre section come together. These two-hour sessions are much more than general rehearsals. Expert guests are invited to share their knowledge and experience. Team-building exercises are run to forge lasting friendships and a shared sense of belonging. And plenty of time is devoted to having FUN!

Performances throughout the artistic season

YCM believes strongly in giving our musical theatre students multiple opportunities to perform. We want our young artists to experience the sense of satisfaction that is felt as a result of hours of acquiring new skills and overcoming challenges to gain mastery. No matter the venue, these performances are sure to be peak experiences for students and audience alike, showcasing weeks and months of musical preparation and dedication.

Annual fees

YCM’s program runs from September through May. Tuition is to be paid in a single installment of €770 at the time of enrollment.

Additionally, Musical Theatre students must purchase the YCM published music rights packet at a cost of €30.

As Musical Theatre students are protagonists at our YCM performances, we require parents to sign a consent form at the time of enrollment to allow YCM to utilize photos, videos, and recordings of their chorister to promote YCM and/or our activities.

Registration is open for the 2022/2023 academic year. Our next Open Day – where prospective students can meet our instructors and experience a YCM rehearsal – will be Wednesday, September 28th, 17:00-19:00. Register today by using the Trial lesson request form below.
